about
Lazy Day - the brainchild of London-based songwriter Tilly Scantlebury (they/them) - make their long-awaited return, announcing their signing to Brace Yourself Records with the release of brand new single 'Bright Yellow'.
‘Bright Yellow' opens a window into an expansive new world for Lazy Day, marking a huge level-up for Scantlebury. It bursts out of understated beginnings, exploding into vivid swathes of colour, Robyn-inspired synths, and bounding drums. This is daring indie-pop music with ambition matched only by its finesse and determination.
'Bright Yellow' is the first new music from Lazy Day since a run of releases across 2019 and 20 that drew support and acclaim from the likes of VICE, The Fader, DIY, Dork, The I, The Line of Best Fit to name a few, as well as radio airplay from folks including Lauren Laverne, Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, Jack Saunders and more.
lyrics
Lyrics:
When I saw that photograph
I knew right then it could've been me
It could've been
Like a painting from the past
Kings like them had never been seen
They'd never been
And all that, and all that bright yellow
Yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow
Surrounds them, surrounds them like a halo
Yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow
When I saw that photograph
I saw myself stare back at me
A memory
Like a painting from the past
There's a family I could be
A remedy
And all that, and all that bright yellow
Yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow
Surrounds them, surrounds them like a halo
Yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow
I must have stared at them for hours
Hours on end
You with your friends
I wanna be like them
Regal and bold
Luminous gold
And all that, and all that bright yellow
Yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow
Surrounds them, surround them like a halo
Yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow, yellow
